Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer in Software Engineering

Chalmers Tekniska Högskola AB söker Standardiseringsingenjör i Göteborg

Information about the research/the project/the department
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is a joint department at Chalmers University of Technology and the University of Gothenburg, with activities on two campuses in the city of Gothenburg. The department has around 210 employees from over 30 countries. Our research has a wide span, from theoretical foundations to applied systems development. We provide high quality education at Bachelor's, Master's and graduate levels, offering over 120 courses each year. We also have extensive national and international collaborations with academia, industry and society.

The SE division in Gothenburg is a young division with a very international staff. It currently has about 15 permanent staff and around 20 Ph.D. students and postdocs. The research within the SE division research covers a.o.: software architecture, security, requirements engineering, model-based software development, software metrics, open source and software ecosystems, software engineering for cyber-physical systems, and software testing. Much of the research in the SE division has a human-centric orientation and is performed in empirical studies – often in collaboration with industrial partners. The department has a ‘Software Center’ that initiates and performs industrially relevant research with national and international companies.

Major responsibilities
The candidate is expected to be able to teach a wide range of topics in the area of Software Engineering. Concrete courses that are in need of a lecturer are: Project-courses in which students implement systems as a team, and courses in Programming (Java), Technical Analysis and Design and Change Management. The teaching activities also include supervisions of bachelor and master thesis.

The candidate is expected to do research in an area within Software Engineering. In research we are looking for expertise that has clear synergy with existing topics, yet also complements our existing expertise. Some topics that are considered attractive are:
- Software process improvement, human factors in software development, managing innovations in software development,
- Software engineering in gaming/mobile/start-ups
- Industry-oriented research in testing (e.g. security testing, testing cyberphysical systems)
- Software engineering related to big data (e.g. mining in the large, mining user data, knowledge-based sensemaking)
- Smart/Autonomous Cyberphysical Systems
- Requirements Engineering (esp. software product management)

Your major responsibilities as associate professor or senior lecturer involve teaching on undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels, as well as performing your own research. The position also includes supervising PhD students, taking part in leadership and administration and actively applying for external funding. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large.

Position summary
Teaching, research and some managerial duties. Full-time permanent position.

Qualifications
The candidate should have an excellent track record in research, and a demonstrated ability to attract external funding, as well as documented proficiency in research supervision and teaching at university level. Leadership experience or experience of successful collaboration with industry and society is considered valuable.

The employment can be at different levels, depending on the candidate's experience. Only in exceptional cases will we consider applications for higher levels of appointment. Master and graduate level education is in English; thus, fluency in English is required.

The position of associate professor requires a doctoral degree in a relevant field as well as at least 15 higher education credits in teaching and learning in higher education or corresponding expertise. You must be accustomed to teaching and be a skilled educator. For this reason, we place a great deal of emphasis on your pedagogical portfolio. Experience from performing academic research or qualified research in industry/the public sector is meritorious.

The position's level will primarily be determined on the basis of your scientific qualifications. The position of associate professor requires, for example, scientific expertise that is considerably higher than that required for a doctoral degree (corresponding to admission as docent).

Regardless of the level, the position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in Swedish and English. If Swedish is not your native language, you must be able to teach in Swedish on undergraduate level after two years. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.

Chalmers continuously strives to be an attractive employer. Equality and diversity are substantial foundations in all activities at Chalmers.
