The section Engine Controls & Calibration are responsible for function development, calibration and validation of engine control in Volvo Car Groups petrol and diesel engines. The section consists of around 100 persons working in engine dynos, vehicle dynos, in vehicles and with simulations. Within the group Combustion & Air Charge Control Petrol our mission is to optimise the Engine Management System (EMS) to bring out the best attributes of the engine. The group is responsible for calibration and functionality for the Torque Model, Knock Control, Combustion Setpoints and for the calibration of Air Charge Control including Boost Control. You will be a part of the development of technical solutions that has a big impact on how the costumer perceives the vehicle.

As a Calibration & Optimisation Engineer your main responsibility is to make base calibration for petrol engines and perform testing in engine test cells as well of the complete powertrain in vehicles. It will be within your role to optimise the application data and develop the functions of the software. To be able to test the vehicle in different environment conditions this position requires travel and a chance to go to places all over the world approximately four times per year.

Main responsibilities

* DoE, data collection and analysis of measurement data
* Make ECU calibration based on the collected data
* CAE analysis and validation
* Manage the given assignment through a cross functional team
* Optimisation of both engine and vehicle dynamics and performance
* Process and method development, i.e. develop your own calibration methods
* Documenting the work

Required qualifications

* At least M.Sc. in Mechanical, Physics or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent with courses in combustion engines, software programming and electronics
* Good knowledge of spark ignited combustion (petrol engines)
* Experience from calibration of Engine Management Systems
* Fluent in English (written and spoken)
* Driver's licence (B-level, passenger car)
* Long experience in writing your own scripts for data analysis, calibration and optimization in Matlab and/or Python is required
* Experience from Model Based Calibration and Optimization of combustion engines
* An asset is experience from INCA software
* Experience from Bosch or Denso Engine Management System is meritorious
