Postdoctoral position in Cell and Developmental Biology

Chalmers Tekniska Högskola AB söker Civilingenjör, forskning/utveckling, kemi i Göteborg

Information about the division and the research
The lab is part of the Division of Chemical Biology, a new Division within the Department of Biology and Biological Engineering, Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden. The Division is embedded within an attractive research environment with access to several core facilities, and in close proximity to the Sahlgrenska University Hospital and the University of Gothenburg. The Division strives to address cutting-edge questions in biology to meet medical challenges related to human health by combining genetic and protein engineering, synthetic chemistry and biophysical approaches. The Lab's strategic vision is to foster a scientific culture that promotes interdisciplinary research in the fields of cell and developmental biology, information technology, chemistry and physics. Gothenburg is a beautiful city located on the west coast of Sweden, with the perfect combination of city buzz, thriving culture, delicious seafood and peaceful nature.

Our group aims to understand preimplantation mammalian development by combining advanced live-cell imaging and genetic approaches with computer-based mathematical modeling and simulations of cell dynamics. This combined with high-throughput genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics data analysis will help us understand the secrets of morphogenesis and cell differentiation during early mouse embryo development at a comprehensive and integrative level. Our goal is to decipher the biophysical and molecular mechanisms that govern embryological changes throughout the first week of mammalian development: from the early events of oocyte fertilization, through the extreme morphological changes throughout compaction and ending with the complex cell positioning events during blastocyst formation. Major responsibilities
Your major responsibility will be to perform research to a high standard, present it at scientific conferences and publish it in peer-reviewed scientific journals. The successful candidate is expected to be highly motivated and creative, be willing to learn and develop new methods and strive to establish independent research. You will have the capacity and motivation to collaborate with different scientific partners, and with society at large, and to work in a cooperative manner with your colleagues. The position may also include teaching at undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry or the public sector.

Position summary
The position is temporary for 1+1 years, and the stipendium is maximum for 2 years. However, there is high chances of continuity, especially if the postdoctoral training is successful in terms of publications. A probation period is expected during the first 6 months of employment. Only candidates shortlisted for interview will be notified.

Qualifications
- The position requires a PhD in cell biology, developmental biology, molecular biology, or related areas.
- A good publication track record is expected, including first author publications.
- A particular advantage is experience with micromanipulation techniques.
- Knowledge of programming or high-throughput data analysis, or experience with mouse work is desired, but not a must.
- The PhD degree must have been awarded by a university outside of Sweden and cannot be older than two years at the time of application to this position; exceptions are made for candidates who underwent a period of documented absence.
- The position requires sound verbal and written communication skills in English. If Swedish is not your native language, you are encouraged to learn it during your employment. Chalmers offers Swedish courses.
