Site Supplier Quality Management Engineer

The Supplier Quality Management (SQM) department is supporting our supplier base globally. We have offices in Gothenburg, Prague, Gent, China, Malaysia and US. The SQM Interior department works with a mission to secure that external supplier manufacturing process is capable to deliver parts to the set specification and meet our volumes by securing capacity. We have a vision to have capable suppliers that create no disturbances to our customer plants.

As a Site Supplier Quality Management (SQM) Engineer you will work for the European Interior team, and you will be located in Gothenburg. The Site SQM Engineer acts as the primary Volvo Car Group representative at a supplier's manufacturing site. The scope will be limited to the seats, restraints and climate commodity areas and the most significant one for this position will be the JIT (just in time) seats supplier. The Site SQM engineer's activities are to secure quality and delivery with stable performance at external suppliers, supporting both new programs and running production. The group consists of 5-6 colleagues and one group manager. The group manager is located in Gothenburg.

Main responsibilities

* Responsibility for allocated set of supplier manufacturing sites and approval of product and manufacturing process regarding quality and delivery
* Collaboration with Purchasing and R&D to ensure consistent sourcing consensus, provide new site locations/technology evaluations and lessons learnt to support sourcing
* Drive for successful launch by APQP follow up, Run at Rate reviews, Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and PSW completion
* Drive supplier's to improve capability, secure robust problem resolution and continuous improvement
* Frequent travel to suppliers' sites. The extent of travel depends upon various conditions, including the suppliers' complexity, urgent situations and distance to suppliers

Required qualifications

* University Degree M.Sc Mechanical Engineering or equivalent relevant working experience preferably within automotive industry
* Five to seven years' experience within the manufacturing engineering, quality or R&D area. Manufacturing engineering is the most preferred one
* Knowledge of manufacturing processes including final assembly including JIT/JIS, injection molding, and plastic painting
* Knowledge of surface material such as leather and vinyl is meritorious
* Verified Six Sigma Black Belt competence and capability
* Knowledge about quality systems such as TS16949 and quality tools such as 8D, SPC, TPM, APQP, PPAP
* Knowledge about Lean Manufacturing is meritorious
* Knowledge of product development, specifications and standards of parts within Interior commodity is meritorious
* Fluent in English (written and spoken)
* Drivers license (B)

* Have a strong drive, leadership skills/behavior and ability to proactively develop and improve the supplier base
* Good communication skills and ability to maintain international relations
* Able to coach both suppliers and cross functional teams to deliver results
* Have strong drive in concern resolution in structured way with DMAIC and 8D method
* Positive, pragmatic attitude, resolute and high drive for results
* High degree of courage, integrity and business ethics.
* Have a passion for quality and manufacturing processes
* Have ability to manage multiple items at the same time
* Feel at home in an international and diverse environment
* Have excellent technical and analytic skills
* Have a good strategic view
* Are able to travel, approximately 60 % of your work week, also in short notice
